ABOUT US Porridge for Parkinson’s was started in Vancouver in 2001 by Marg Meikle who developed Parkinson’s at the age of 43. She was determined to do something to advance a cure for this progressive disease. Marg’s symptoms, as with most people with Parkinson’s disease, are least active in the mornings. She developed the concept of a breakfast event in her home to raise money for research. Her initiative has inspired others to host similar events. To date Porridge for Parkinson’s events have raised in excess of $1,000,000.
Researchers have a better understanding of Parkinson’s and are close to a cure. As Marg says, "We can’t sit around waiting for something to happen. The fact that the science is ahead of the money inspires Porridge for Parkinson’s." Porridge for Parkinson's events were held in Toronto in 2007 and 2009 and have been a resounding success.
